Wednesday's Grace Notes

Jesus washing others feet in the form of pedicures, laughing in the face of fear, lessons in humility, using music to heal broken souls, sisters to bring me joy, friends that give me strength and strangers that help me to heal.

Angels Unaware

Angels Unaware

When I was in the hospital after my brain stem stroke in '96 my night nurse came by my bed and shared her sorrows, life of neglect, pain and suffering. After a deep pause she said "but after seeing the miracle of healing with you I can now believe in Jesus again."

Sometimes God gently places us in darkness so that so that we can be His light.

Celebrate the day... where ever you are.

Featured artist Yvonne C. Lozano

About Yvonne C. Lozano BIOGRAPHY I am originally from New Orleans, LA, but have been living most my life in Jacksonville, FL. As a child I was always interested in learning and exploring the world around me with an emphasis on tapping into the creative & expressive side of my brain. Art has been an ever evolving and never ending learning process in my life. I went to Douglas Anderson School of the Arts where I majored in drawing and painting, which is also where most of my serious art training began. I went on to study at Jacksonville University, graduating in 2001 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts and a concentration in printmaking. I work primarily in acrylics on canvas documenting my childhood memories, but I have recently gotten into doing large-scale murals as well. My work has been seen nationally through the Progressive People’s Biennial Exhibit from 2007-2009; it has made it’s way into corporate art collections such Baptist Hospital South & Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL; I have been selected as a featured artist on such online sources as Fine Art America, Blick Art Materials Facebook Page, & Liquitex Artist Materials Facebook Page; In addition, I have been getting involved in public art projects throughout the city to help expose the community to the benefits of art, such as: exterior murals, collaborative works, and art hunts.

Angels Unaware

Angels Unaware

When I had my brain stem stroke in '96 I was hanging out in the hospital and had been there for about a week. At 4:00 in the morning the nurses and aids felt that it was time to throw on the lights and change the sheets. A small nurse came to my bedside and holding my sheets began to talk. At length. She told me about her bad marriage, illnesses, financial problems, and feeling all alone in the world. " But after seeing the miracle of you (my recovery) I now can believe in Jesus again." Wow! Humbling! And all that I needed to do was to have a stroke and lie there.

Jesus rocks!

What Is Lupus?

What Is Lupus? Simplified

When one gets a cold your immune system of solders w/ all of their aggressive weapons take over and attack it. Cold gone. Game over. But with Lupus the army asks "what else can we do?" So they attack the nerves, the lungs, the kidneys, the eyes... all parts of the body are open for attack. So we put out the fires as they come and pray for a cure.

Thought For The Day

We lived in the Mojave desert for three years. It rarely rained. When it did, the air stunk from all of the thick layers of old "dust". The dry creek beds would gush with torrents of water leaving the desert cleansed and ready to grow summer blooms. It is the same thing with indulging in a good cry. I feel better now.

Saturday's Grace Notes "Lupus"

I have Lupus. I have flares. Right now I am in one. Bummer. Yesterday between appointments at the Mayo Clinic I was sitting in my power chair by one of the many beautiful gardens and I had a memory. Two years ago I was sitting by the same pond w/ egrets, blue heron's, turtles, flowers... I was in my same power chair strapped in so that I wouldn't fall out. It took me three small naps along the way to get out to the pond (yes in public). I remember sitting there thanking God that I was now longer a long time resident in the hospital and rehab center in a sling. I thought that "this is it' and I would not be able to sit unaided and I was so very thankful to come such a long way and to be "independent". Now I am singing and performing again. I am still in a power chair but God has shown me how to live. I have Lupus but it doesn't have me. Celebrate the day!
